Swardmagic bears two elemental charges — water and wood. Water-charged magic is ichor, and wood-charged magic is soma.
In the cycle of arcana, the soil of the earth drinks water and begets the life of the sward, which bears the stalk and leaf that over time become wood. Ichor takes on the flavor of the Sward domain as it begins its descent in the cycle. Ichor becomes soma as water and seed form trees. Metal cuts down the stalk and trunk of the sward, which in turn begets rot that begins the renewal of swamp, fen, and bog.
Swardmagic is an absorptive magic of life and growth. Its folk and its wielders understand ichor and soma through learned observation of the effects of consuming the power of nature by trial and error — or by apprenticeship and study. Swardfolk absorb the powers of life as an inherent part of their being, but human practitioners must learn methods of witchcraft, the intake of Swardmagic by augury, herblore, and familiars.
Wielding the power of life either by innate affinity or through witchcraft grants access to the qualities, abilities, and nature of that life, augmenting the self or others and encouraging growth and healing.
