Swampmagic bears two elemental charges — wood and earth. Wood-charged magic is soma, and earth-charged magic is arche.
In the cycle of arcana, blades of metal bring a cut down wood, stalk, and vine, bringing death to the swamp, which bears the rot and decay that returns life to the become soil of the earth. Soma takes on the flavor of the Swamp domain as it crosses the midpoint of the cycle's descent. Soma becomes arche as time turns wood to soil.
Swampmagic is an emissive magic of death and rebirth. Its folk and its wielders understand soma and arche through a feeling for the power waiting within the dead to be released and recycled. Swampfolk recycle the powers of of the dead as an inherent part of their being, but human practitioners must learn methods of wizardry, the harnessing of Swampmagic released and repurposed from the living and the dead.
Wielding the power of rebirth either by innate affinity or through wizardry releases the powers stored up within a body over the course of its life to be repurposed.
